General Counsel Michael Donovan oversees the legal division within the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael joined the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office in July of 2024. Prior to working at the BCSO, Michael worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office for over 16 years. As an ADA, Michael served for two years as the Chief District Court Prosecutor, supervising a team of attorneys and support staff across the five district courts on the Cape & Islands. Michael then moved to superior court, where he investigated and prosecuted major felonies and handled civil asset forfeitures. Michael has also previously taught Criminal Justice at Cape Cod Community College. Michael has a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University with a concentration in history.
