Position: Classification Counselor II

Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and accurately complete classification paperwork such as scheduled classification reviews and ensuring that inmates receive copies of classification decisions.
Ensure that classification paperwork is properly handled and is kept in secure locations outside of the housing units by filing it in the institutional records office.
Performs case management involving the making of various types of social investigations requiring the collection, analysis, and recording of significant facts and reporting thereon.
Interviewing the inmates upon admittance to ascertain social, vocational, criminal, and education history on an as needed basis.
Verify information obtained by personal visits and inmate to inmate correspondence.
Write case summaries for use in transfers and/or parole hearings.
Make recommendations for various programs or any outside residential housing to aid in the inmates’ successful reintegration to society.
Work in conjunction with other classification and security staff to discuss relevant issues about inmates and/or unit (i.e. inmate transfers, new inmates to unit, security concerns, schedules changes, climate issues, etc.)
Assists on a daily basis, along with security staff and central classification staff, with decisions on inmates’ movement by visiting the unit where inmate is living, reviewing information on classification form, conducting an interview and rendering a vote along with members of classification and security during the inmate’s class board.
Maintains records and reports on visits, interviews, caseloads and assignments.
Assist security in emergency situations after being fully trained to perform a particular security response. Shall be expected to assist officer(s) when possible, with the successful daily operation of the unit.
Submits information to various staff members relative to significant behaviors, abilities and/or disabilities as determined by acquired data.
During his/her workday in the unit, the Classification Counselor II may point out areas of concern to the officer(s).
Assist the Classification Counselor I responsible for updating material on unit’s bulletin boards, as well as ensuring temporary postings are displayed for inmate viewing.
Assist the chairperson for classification board hearings and assures that the initial and 60 day reviews are accurate.
Performs other related duties as designated by the Sheriff.
